What steps does St. Joseph Christian School take to ensure the safety of my children?
This is Charlotte McElroy, Operations Administrator at St. Joseph Christian School. One of the areas I oversee at school is safety and emergency planning. The safety of our students is a priority at SJCS, and we provide ongoing training for staff and conduct safety drills throughout the year. We have a secure entry system which means our building is always locked down during the school day and all visitors must be admitted by the security receptionist. We also have a large network of cameras across our campus, which are monitored throughout the day. Although we know we can’t plan for every emergency, we take to heart the words of Proverbs 2:10 which says, “Wise planning will watch over you. Understanding will keep you safe,” and we do our best to prepare. Ultimately, we understand the Lord is in control and we put our faith and trust in Him. As it says in Psalm 20:7, “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.”

How is SJCS equipping students to function in a technology-centered world?
At SJCS, we recognize the need for students to learn to use all types of technology effectively and safely. Technology education is not just a separate curriculum but an appropriate part of every level of instruction. From digital storytelling and desktop publishing projects in the lower grades to multi-media web design and online research skills in the upper grades, our students at St. Joseph Christian School benefit from the priority placed on technology. Our students are provided the opportunities to learn and practice the information literacy skills they need to communicate their ideas and beliefs to others, both near and far. College online courses, an online gradebook program, our school website, email, and Facebook are just a few other ways we use technology at SJCS to meet the ever changing needs of our 21st Century learners and to stay connected with parents.
How does SJCS strive to provide a safe and orderly learning environment for our students and staff?
Research has shown that a safe and orderly learning environment is a key ingredient in academic success. At SJCS, we are committed to school safety, believing that “wise planning will watch over you. Understanding will keep you safe.” (Proverbs 2:10) Though recent school crises have brought safety issues to the forefront, statistically, school is still one of the safest environments for your child and St. Joseph Christian School is one of the safest schools in the area. Our security system is state of the art, and our security receptionist diligently monitors activity outside the school building during school hours. Visitors must identify themselves and have a legitimate purpose in visiting the school or they will not be allowed entry.
All SJCS staff are regularly trained in emergency procedures and monthly safety drills are held so staff and students can practice emergency plans. We have administrators on site who have completed advanced training with local law enforcement agencies, and who have real-time communication connections with. Ultimately, though, our confidence is not in our preparation, but in the Lord, so we continually pray for the safety of our school.
St. Joseph Christian School is a great place to have my kids. Their biblical teaching goes right along with what we teach at home and my kids are challenged not only with academics, but with their faith. My daughter is going on her first mission trip this year in large part because of how she has been inspired by SJCS!5-star parent review
