2018 Pony Express League — Coach Pitch

General Information

  • Deadline to register your child: February 26th (Monday)
  • Cost: Approximately $70 (actual number depends on roster size)
    • You will be contacted with the exact cost a week or two prior to March 3rd
  • Registration fee: Steve Juhl must have your child’s fee prior to registering March 3rd
    • Coach Juhl will write one big check for the whole team on March 3rd
  • Season duration: Mid-April through June
  • Regular season format: 10 games (1 per week)
    • Games may be played any day of the week EXCEPT Fridays and Sundays
    • Games start at either 6:00 or 7:15 p.m.
  • Postseason: Double elimination tournament
  • Game duration: 1 hour maximum
  • Game locations: Click for directions
  • Game environment: competitive
    • The score will be kept
    • There will be a winner and a loser each game
    • There will be excited yelling coming from the dugout and the bleachers
    • The defense must get three outs, or surrender 7 runs before transitioning to offense
  • Playing time: equal
    • 10 payers may play on defense each half inning
    • All defensive positions will be manned (including catcher) with an additional outfielder
    • Every present player will be in the batting order though those at the bottom of the order may get one fewer at bat
    • SJCS teams will rotate positions during the season rather than teach specific positions to specific players
  • Practice location: *TBD (We won’t be able to get on the SJCS baseball field so we are looking into other options.  Pony Express provides opportunities for practicing at city fields, but with limited options regarding day and time.  The SJCS practice football field will be our back-up plan.)
  • Practice times: TBD
  • Practice expectations: take your kid home at the end
  • Age limit: Must not turn 7 prior to May 1st
  • Coaches: Steve Juhl, Bryan Jundy, Matt and/or Kristina Wieners

      • Coaches must complete a background check and pay $13
      • Non-coaches aren’t allowed in the dugout or on the field during games per PE rules
  • Required equipment:
    • Baseball glove
  • Optional equipment: Some kids will have the following items, some won’t
  • Provided equipment: The following items will be available at games/practices
    • Baseball bat(s)
    • Baseballs
    • Game jerseys (also known as t-shirts, provided by Pony Express Baseball)
  • Why we are doing this:
    • To learn the basics of a REALLY fun game that is uniquely American
    • To socialize with classmates, parents, and school personnel outside of the normal school structure
    • To have some fun
    • To be godly examples of parents, players, and coaches in a competitive sports setting
  • What we aren’t worried about:
    • Winning every game
